​Would you like your children to speak Cantonese and learn more about the Cantonese culture?

Yau Yih Yun å¹¼å„¿å› was established by an eager and active group of parents who wanted to give their children wider accessibility and exposure to the Cantonese language and culture. Classes are designed for children 5 and under through song, dance, play and other interactive activities.
Since 1987, it has grown considerably and has a qualified and committed teacher, supported by a committee of enthusiastic parents and grandparents. Our playgroup is for all families of any ethnic background interested in speaking Cantonese at any level of fluency. We aim to promote learning of the Chinese language, culture and identity while making new friends.
Classes are held during school terms in the ground level of the Wellington Chinese Sports and Cultural Centre:
Wednesday 10:00am to 12 pm
Saturday 10:00am to 11 am
Families are welcome to attend both or one of the classes each week.

This is the perfect follow on learning experience from Yau Yih Yun.
We currently run 2 sessions of classes - one class for 5 to 8 years and another for over 8 - 12 year olds. Classes focus on the development of basic conversational and written skills in an interactive and fun environment.
with 15 families involved (many with more than one child attending) interest has certainly increased in the last 2-3 years - an acknowledgment of the importance that the Cantonese language plays as part of our identity.
